Graduate Profile
Bruce Willett
B.A. Hons., D.Psych (Clinical)
I completed my Honours degree at Murdoch in 1995 and the Doctor of Psychology
in February 2003. During my postgraduate degree I was working part time as a
psychologist in the rehabilitation sector and with a Clinical Psychologist.
Within these roles I wrote many reports, consulted in an Employee Assistance
Program and also participated in Traumatic Incident Debriefing sessions.
Once I had completed my Doctorate these part time roles provided a stepping-stone
to full time employment as a psychologist with Centrelink and then a locum role
as a Clinical Psychologist (Registrar) with Inner City Mental Health Services
at Royal Perth Hospital. While at RPH I worked in Consultation-Liaison (specifically
with the Bali bombing burns patients), YouthLink, a personality disorders day-hospital
program and the West Australian Transcultural Mental Health Service.
I would say that the postgraduate doctorate from Murdoch University prepared
me well for the role of Clinical Psychologist (Registrar), and the academic
skills were well supported from my part time employment in psychology. I have
also made some great friendships while at Murdoch and I find the collegial Alumni
extremely supportive.
