What is Counselling?

Counselling is a meeting between two people in which both agree to focus on the issues and concerns of the client. With the warm support of a counsellor, clients often experience relief and an ability to reconsider troubling issues with more clarity and purpose.

Amongst our psychotherapy supervisors we have people with expertise in drama therapy, art psychotherapy, trauma work, neuropsychology and working with children. Our postgraduate trainees use a comprehensive range of counselling methods with the aim of finding a good fit between clients, counsellor and model of treatment.

In recognition of the importance that relationships play in our lives, we offer couple, family and group counselling as well as individual counselling.

Who Are We?

Caladenia House is the home of The Godfrey Barrett-Lennard Counsellor Training Centre. Our counselling cenrte provides a safe, supportive and affordable environment to assist people who are experiencing major challenges in their lives or who are dealing with a difficult situation.

The Centre works with people of all ages and backgrounds in a caring professional way to promote individual wellbeing and fulfilling relationships.

People who attend our counselling centre are seen by postgraduate students enrolled in the Master of Counselling or the Postgraduate Diploma of Counselling at Murdoch University who are supervised by experienced & qualified counselling staff.

Consultations are also available with our counselling staff at professional rates.

Our Students

Our postgraduate Counselling trainees at Caladenia House are committed to providing you with a caring and supportive environment in which you can consider the life circumstances that are causing you distress.

Our trainees are a diverse group of men and women from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. At Murdoch, we encourage mature students to study Counselling so that we can build upon their previous work and life experience – our students range in age from 22 years of age to over 50 years of age. Our students have completed previous degrees in a range of human service areas such as psychology, social work, teaching, nursing, theology and business amongst others. They have returned to University to study Counselling as they feel drawn toward a profession that fosters personal wellbeing in others. Our students undergo rigorous training before undertaking their work at Caladenia House and work closely with their supervisors to provide you with the best possible care. We also encourage our students to undertake work with a Counsellor themselves as an integral part of their personal and professional development. We feel that this helps them prepare for the role of Counsellor and to understand what it is like to be a client.

We trust that you will find your time at Caladenia House to be valuable and replenishing.

CALADENIA HOUSE: A place to belong and be heard.
