NEW NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL CLINIC OPENS IN EAST PERTH

The new clinic is the first of its kind in Australia offering a unique cost-effective approach to researching and treating methamphetamine and alcohol dependent patients. Neuropsychological assessment in the clinic is free and is conducted by postgraduate students from both Murdoch University and UWA. Information, including the patients neuropsychological functioning and recommendations for treatment, gained from the assessments, is passed onto the "Next Step Drug and Alcohol Service" to increase the treatment provided by Next Step. The program provides the 5 Masters and PhD students a unique opportunity to develop and enhance their clinical experience and at the same time provides the students with a great source of information for their data collection for their research on substance dependence.
Dr Marjorie Collins from the School said that the program gave the students a chance to see the benefits of their theoretical research.
The clinic was officially opened on 16th June, 2004 by the Hon Sue Ellery MLC Parliamentary Secretary for health.
