The Course at a Glance

Do you wonder how people think and why they behave as they do? If so, Psychology is the course for you! The Murdoch Psychology program provides a professional and scientific education for students interested in the study of human behaviour. It comprises a set of required units, which provide a basic grounding in the discipline of Psychology and a range of elective units, which provide students with a range of course options.

The Psychology program covers a range of areas including how we perceive the world, how we think and learn, what motivates our behaviour, development through the lifespan, how we interact in groups and abnormal psychology. The program also covers how to conduct research and write reports in psychology.

Psychologists work in more areas than you might expect. Psychologists are employed by government departments, private business organisations, universities, schools, hospitals, the military and a range of other agencies and organisations. Examples of the types of jobs occupied by past Murdoch psychology graduates include: School Psychologists, Research and Development Officers, Learning Centre Coordinators, Early Childhood Program Coordinators, Policy Officers, Personnel Managers, University lecturers, Counsellors: Youth & Community Services workers, Vocational Guidance Officers, Consultants, Clinical and Organisational Psychologists in Private Practice.

Flexibility

• You can also consider a double major program which combines Psychology with a range of other majors like: Legal Studies, Mass Communication, Media, Criminology, and Education. There are also many minor areas of specialisation available to Psychology students.

What You Will Study

Honours Program

At the end of your third year of the BPsych program, you may apply for enrolment in the Psychology Honours program. This replaces the 4th year of the program and includes an individual research project. Honours is a good preparation for postgraduate study. Admission to Honours is based on previous academic performance.
